Game Ideas - Twin Sticks
This week (Week 4/5), we also had to come up with some ideas that we could pitch to our group for our major game assignment. I only really have two basic ideas that came from the main theme of Twin Sticks, and they were Stilts and Chopsticks!
1. Stilts
For my first idea, I came up with a basic side scrolling platformer, using 3D models, where the main player character is on stilts. I thought it would be a cool idea for the main player character having to walk around on stilts, with each leg controlled individually by different keys (for example the WASD for the left, and Arrow keys for the right). This idea of unconventional movement in a platformer came from Getting Over It. I think that this game would be successful because it takes a popular genre (platformers) and adds the twist of a unique movement style. The goal for a prototype would be to have a very basic level design that would allow for how the stilt movement to be shown off.
2. Chopsticks
My idea for chopsticks is a Fruit Ninja style game, where pieces of sushi are being thrown at the player, from front on, and they have to shoot chopsticks at them in order to keep themself safe and avoid being hit. This game would be for players who like more casual games, where they don't have to commit to a long game with a story line to keep track of. I think that this game would be popular because it can be very flexible with how much time you put into it, making it good when someone just wants to fit in a quick gaming session. For the prototype, it would just need the basics of the game; an ai that will randomly throw sushi, a player that can throw the chopsticks, and a rudimentary points and health system.
