This week I started work on the game by creating a main menu. The main menu features a background image of the deeply experienced game-dev Fabian Lampasona. The image begins black but fades in with a spiral effect upon loading the menu. The menu features the title of the game at the top of the screen along with two buttons "Play" and "Tough Quote". Clicking the play button launches the player into the game and the Tough Quote button takes you to another page.Below is the page that the Tough Quote button takes you to when you click it. This page features the same goofy but cool background image, along with a tough quote that creatively describes the unfortunate decision of mistakenly relinquishing something of good quality for that of lesser quality. This ties into the game because attempting to gain extra health at the slot machine you can potentially lose any chance you had at actually defeating the clock tower and ultimately finishing the game. After this, I added in a victory page that is triggered upon killing the clock tower. The victory page has two buttons on it. One button leads you back to the main menu, and the other replays the game from the beginning. In addition to these major additions to the game, I also made a few small changes. One change I made was making so that the arena has walls and is smaller. I made so there's a door that disappears to let you enter and reappears after entering. I also fixed a few small bugs, such as not dying when falling off the map and not having the physics restart upon restarting the game from the main menu.

This week, I added a second shooting ability for the player, added asome juice, and also worked on a main menu theme song for the game.

The second available shooting ability is only able to be shot after every few seconds as opposed to the normal shot which is more frequent. The new ‘powershot’ does more damage than the normal attack, this currently being 5 compared to 1 however, this along with the duration between shots may change later to accommodate for game feel.

To add some audio and visual feedback - or  “juice” - to the game I added some trails effects to both projectile types (as shown in the GIF below) and added a shooting sound effect for the regular attack, something I need to add for the powershot.

Utilising a combination of ChatGPT (for lyrics) and musicgeneratorai.com (to bring the lyrics to life) Micah and I created the song which is played in the main menu screen. We both recorded some harrowing evil laughs and goings of which would be typical from the clocktower itself. These were strategically added to the background of the music to keep up with the theme of the game.

This week I was charged with making and designing the platforming section of the game. During the section there is three distinct areas of difficulty. The first just has plain flat platforms, the second incorporates slopes, and the third has moving platforms, both vertical and horizontal.

To create the moving platforms I made two scripts, one for vertical movement and one for horizontal. The script makes the platform move for a specified distance before triggering a Boolean and moving back to its starting point and continues like this in a loop. Both the distance and speed are changeable, allowing me to have some variety with my platforming design.
